Class 4 MOT Testing

Keep Your Car or Van Safe and Road Legal

Most cars and vans need an MOT every year once they are three years old. The test checks that your vehicle meets the minimum road safety and environmental standards, and driving without a valid MOT can lead to a fine of up to £1,000.

At Ferguslea Motors we carry out Class 4 MOTs on cars and vans up to 3,000kg. If your vehicle needs any work to pass, we will explain what is needed and can carry out the repairs here, saving you the hassle of going elsewhere.

You can MOT your vehicle up to a month (minus a day) before the current certificate runs out and still keep the same renewal date.

  2. TyresMake sure tread depth is at least 1.6mm and look for cuts or bulges.
  3. Windscreen & WipersCheck for chips or cracks in your view, and top up the screen wash.
  4. Warning LightsDashboard warning lights such as the engine or ABS light can cause a fail. Get them checked first.

When is my MOT due?

Most vehicles need their first MOT when they are three years old, then every year after that. You can check your MOT due date for free on the GOV.UK website using your registration number.

Can I MOT my vehicle early?

Yes. You can have your MOT up to a month (minus a day) before your current certificate expires and keep the same renewal date.

Do you MOT vans?

Yes. We carry out Class 4 MOTs, which cover cars and vans up to 3,000kg design gross weight.

What happens if my vehicle fails?

We will explain what failed and give you a quote for the repairs. Once you approve the work, we can carry out the repairs here and arrange the retest.

What do I need to bring for my MOT?

Just your vehicle. Make sure it is reasonably clean, with nothing loose in the boot that could get in the way of the test.

Can I combine my MOT and service?

Yes. Many customers book their MOT and service together to save time and an extra trip to the garage.
